Biomedical Informatics is an emerging domain (has been for a while now) and is still far from being a specialization that is easily identified or understood. A recent article by Bernstam, Smith and Johnson discuss the origins and existing definitions of biomedical informatics and proposes a definition that is grounded in theory.
